New functions for packaging and paper surfaces as well as improving the printability of coated papers are the focus of this field.

• Novel surface functions for packaging are designed to ensure greater climate stability and enhanced conservation of food, for example.
• Photocatalytically active textile and paper surfaces are intended to permit new uses in the wellness area (air purification), in hygiene (antimicrobial efficacy) and in technical textiles.
• Polymer-electronic products are envisioned on the basis of coated papers.
• The curtain coating method will undergo testing with a view to enhancing the surface properties of paper and paperboard.
